What is iLASIK &
How Does It Work?
The iLASIK procedure is one of the most precise medical procedures performed today. Using the VISX Star S4 excimer laser, surgeons can measure and map the unique optical fingerprint of each eye — treating nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism — reducing or eliminating the need for glasses or contacts.
Our dedicated iLASIK surgical suite at the Rock Island location permanently houses the VISX STAR S4 laser, giving us total control of daily calibrations, sterility, and the temperature and humidity of the environment — critical for consistent results.

CustomVue or
Basic iLASIK?
CustomVue / Wavescan
FDA-approved for nearsightedness up to –9.0 diopters with less than –3.0 diopters of astigmatism. Uses the Wavescan System to create a highly detailed map of your eye, identifying each tiny imperfection and higher order aberration — because no two eyes are identical.
Variable spot scanning allows a larger treatment area with the ability to custom-treat small irregularities, giving the doctor greater flexibility for a more individualized corrective procedure.
Basic iLASIK
Designed for patients with a pupil size less than 5mm in dim light who may not qualify for CustomVue treatment. Still uses our precision VISX STAR S4 excimer laser for outstanding outcomes.
Our doctors will determine which treatment option is best suited for your specific refractive needs during your consultation.
Screening &
Your Consultations
First Consultation
Meet your surgeon and the iLASIK team. Initial eye examination and tests determine your corrective needs and eligibility. Corneal thickness (pachymetry), curvature (topography), tear productivity, and pupil size are all measured. In most cases, candidacy is determined at this visit.
Second Consultation
Includes a fully dilated exam to ensure good health of the interior of the eye, and cycloplegic refraction to evaluate the true degree of refractive error.
Contact Lens Wearers
Soft lenses must be removed 10–14 days before the second evaluation; gas permeable lenses for two weeks or longer depending on total years of wear. Contacts can change corneal shape — it must return to its natural form before surgery.

Day of
Surgery
01
Pre-Surgical Prep
You'll receive a tablet of Valium 30 minutes before. Topical numbing drops are applied to your eyes.
02
Flap Creation
A suction ring stabilizes your eye while the laser creates the flap. A speculum prevents blinking during surgery.
03
Laser Correction
The 3-D ActiveTrak tracking system locks onto your eye and compensates for small movements. The excimer laser reshapes your cornea in seconds.
04
Recovery
The flap is repositioned and smoothed. After 15 minutes of rest, your eyes are checked and you're released. Keep eyes closed for 4 hours at home.

After
Your Surgery
Most patients experience dramatic vision improvement within 24 hours. The following temporary effects are normal as your eye heals:
- Mild burning or gritty sensation
- Mild discomfort for up to 3 days
- Blurred vision that progressively clears
- Mild sensitivity to bright lights
- Possible small red spots on the conjunctiva
- Temporary glare or halos at night
- Temporary dryness
All follow-up office visits are included for one year. Touch-up surgery is included if warranted.
The Good iLASIK

- Stable refraction (not changed by more than 0.50 diopters in the past year)
- Healthy eyes free from eye disease or corneal abnormalities
- Nearsightedness up to –10.0 diopters with or without astigmatism
- Farsightedness +0.5 to +5.0 diopters with or without astigmatism up to +3.0 diopters

- Able to lie flat without difficulty
- Able to tolerate topical anesthesia
